Compost Zone

Turning organic waste into living soil for the future of Three Sisters Farm

The Compost Zone is one of the most important working areas of Three Sisters Farm. It is planned as a dedicated space for collecting, processing, and transforming organic material into rich compost that will feed the soil, gardens, food forest, trees, and future farm production.

This zone may not be the most romantic part of the project, but it is one of the most essential. Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we want to build — gardens, orchards, animal areas, food production, education, and long-term land regeneration.

The Compost Zone is planned to hold around 10 cubic meters of compost, giving us the capacity to process a serious amount of organic material and return nutrients back to the land.

Planned Features

  • Dedicated composting area
  • Capacity of approximately 10 m³ of compost
  • Separate compost bays / sections
  • Space for green waste, dry material, and finished compost
  • Natural and practical design
  • Easy access for farm work
  • Connection to gardens, food forest, and growing areas
  • Educational use for viditors, volunteers, and children
  • Soil fertility support for the entire farm
  • Reduction of organic waste
  • Long-term support for regenerative farming

The Vision

The Compost Zone is planned as the living engine of the farm.

Instead of treating organic waste as something to throw away, we want to turn it into fertility. Leaves, grass cuttings, garden waste, plant material, food scraps, animal bedding, and other biodegradable material can become compost — and compost becomes soil life.

This is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to restore tired land, improve water retention, support microorganisms, and build long-term fertility without depending only on outside inputs.

The Compost Zone will help us close the natural cycle of the farm: what grows from the soil returns to the soil.

Compost is not just “fertilizer.” It is a living material full of microorganisms, organic matter, and nutrients.

It improves the structure of the soil, helps the ground hold water during dry periods, supports plant growth, and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers. On Mediterranean islands, where summer heat and dry conditions can be challenging, good compost is especially valuable.

For Three Sisters Farm, compost will support:

Vegetable gardens

Food forest development

Fruit trees

Herbs and Mediterranean plants

Petting zoo and animal areas

Educational garden

Soil restoration

Long-term farm resilience

FOUNDING SUPPORT

Helping build the soil foundation of Three Sisters Farm

The Compost Zone is one of the quiet but essential foundations of the Three Sisters Farm project. It will help us transform organic material into living compost and create the fertility needed for our gardens, food forest, trees, plants, and future farm production.

We welcome support from individuals, companies, gardeners, builders, landscapers, environmental organizations, and everyone who understands that healthy soil is the beginning of a healthy farm.

Support for this zone will help us with site preparation, compost bays, tools, access paths, educational signage, and the creation of a practical system for recycling organic material back into the land.

This support is not only about building a compost area. It is about helping us create the soil that will feed the future of Three Sisters Farm.
