Food Forest

A layered edible landscape where nature, abundance, and learning grow together

Our Food Forest is envisioned as one of the central living systems of the farm — a rich, layered landscape designed to function like a natural forest while producing food, habitat, beauty, and long-term resilience. Rather than relying on a single crop or conventional rows, this space is planned as a diverse agroecosystem where trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials work together in mutually supportive layers.

The current concept includes over 300 fruit trees, 800 shrubs, 10,000 perennials, and 300 vines spread across 7,000 m², connected by pathways and quiet zones that make the area not only productive, but also immersive and restorative. It is imagined as a place where food production, biodiversity, and visitor experience come together in one coherent Mediterranean landscape.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Over 300 fruit trees
  • Around 800 shrubs
  • Around 10,000 perennials
  • Around 300 vines
  • Planned across 7,000 m²
  • Connected by pathways and tranquil zones
  • Designed as an edible forest system, not a conventional orchard
  • Intended as a retreat-like experience for both locals and visitors, with limited visitor capacity

The Vision

The vision of the Food Forest is to create a productive landscape that mirrors the intelligence of nature. Instead of separating agriculture from ecology, this space is designed to bring them together: fruit and nut trees forming the upper layers, shrubs and vines filling the middle, and herbs, flowers, and perennial plants creating a living understory that supports soil, pollinators, and long-term fertility.

Within the wider master plan, the Food Forest also helps shape the character of the farm as a whole. The site already describes the Hobbit House as sitting within the embrace of the food forest, which shows that this area is not only agricultural but also experiential — a place of beauty, shelter, learning, and connection. The goal is to create a landscape that feels abundant, peaceful, and deeply integrated with the rhythms of nature.

A food forest, also called a forest garden or edible forest, is a designed agroecosystem that mimics the structure and function of a natural forest while being made largely of edible plants. Instead of one crop grown in isolation, it combines multiple layers of useful plants that support one another over time.

Campaign

Help Us Bring the Food Forest to Life

We are now raising support for the creation of this layered edible landscape. Through this campaign, supporters will help us establish the planting structure, pathways, and foundational systems needed for the Food Forest to grow into one of the farm’s most important regenerative spaces. The goal is not simply to plant trees, but to create a living ecosystem that becomes more abundant and self-sustaining with every passing season.

  • Establishing the core structure of the 7,000 m² food forest
  • Planting trees, shrubs, vines, and perennial support species
  • Creating pathways and calm zones through the landscape
  • Building a resilient, educational, and biodiverse edible ecosystem
SUPPORT PROCESS

Support Our Food Forest

There are many ways to help us begin the Food Forest. You can support us through our webshop, make a donation, become a sponsor, volunteer your time, or contribute materials, tools, plants, or knowledge. Every contribution will help us prepare the land, plant the first edible species, and build the foundations of a regenerative ecosystem.

Support the Food Forest from Home

By choosing products from our farm webshop, you directly support the creation of our 7,000 m² Food Forest. Each purchase helps us plant edible species, build pathways, care for the land, and create a regenerative space for learning, biodiversity, and abundance.

  • Your order helps us plant trees, shrubs, vines, and perennial species.
  • Every purchase supports soil care, pathways, and long-term farm development.

Support the Food Forest Your Way

Would you like to support the Food Forest in your own way? Contact us and tell us how you would like to help — through volunteering, donations, sponsorship, materials, tools, plants, knowledge, or partnership.

We would also love to hear how we can support you, your community, and the planet through this project. Together, we can create a living landscape that gives back for generations.

Plants Planned

The Food Forest is designed in layers, similar to a natural woodland ecosystem. These include canopy and small fruit trees, shrubs, climbing vines, perennial herbs, root crops, ground covers, and the living soil layer below — including roots, microorganisms, and mycelium networks that help support nutrient cycling and long-term soil health.
