Fig Orchard

An established fig orchard growing into a richer, pollinator-friendly Mediterranean landscape

Our fig orchard is already established, with around 150 fig trees planted as one of the earliest productive foundations of the farm. What began in 2010 as a focused orchard project has grown into an important part of the wider Three Sisters Farm vision, with harvesting underway since 2014.

Today, the orchard is entering its next phase - not by starting from scratch, but by improving what is already there. The focus now is on biodiversity, pollinator support, better ecological balance, and creating more value from the harvest through thoughtful small-scale production.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • 150 established fig trees
  • Harvesting active since 2014
  • Approx. 15% of figs left for birds and insects
  • Gradual transition from monoculture to permaculture
  • Wildflower and herb planting to support bees and pollinators

The Vision

This project is about helping an existing orchard mature into a healthier and more resilient ecosystem. Figs remain at the heart of the space, but the long-term vision goes beyond fruit production alone. The orchard is intended to become a living Mediterranean landscape where trees, flowering plants, pollinators, wildlife, and small-scale farm production support one another.

Inspired by the wider Bee Heaven concept on the site, the orchard will also be enriched with flowering strips, herbs, and bee-friendly planting. This will help transform the fig-growing area into a more vibrant and balanced environment from spring through autumn.

Yes. This is an already established orchard with 150 fig trees, planted in 2010 as one of the earliest major steps in developing the farm. It is not a new planting project, but an existing orchard now entering its next stage of improvement

Help Us Enrich the Fig Orchard with Pollinator Life

We are now raising support for the next phase of our established fig orchard. Through this campaign, supporters will help us improve biodiversity within the orchard, create pollinator-friendly planting zones, and strengthen the orchard as a healthier and more resilient Mediterranean growing space. This builds directly on the site’s existing direction of moving the orchard from monoculture toward permaculture, while drawing inspiration from the Bee Heaven concept of a flower-rich habitat for bees.

  • Enriching the orchard with wildflowers and Mediterranean herbs
  • Creating a better habitat for bees and other pollinators
  • Improving biodiversity throughout the fig-growing area
  • Supporting the orchard’s transition toward a more regenerative system

Campaign Details

This crowdfunding campaign will support the improvement of our already established fig orchard by integrating pollinator-friendly planting and strengthening the ecology of the growing area. Rather than funding a new orchard, the campaign helps us improve what is already planted — making it more diverse, more beautiful, and more resilient over time.
