Protected growing spaces for plants, seedlings, food production, and future farm resilience

The Greenhouse Tunnels are planned as one of the key production and nursery areas of Three Sisters Farm. Also known as polytunnels, these structures offer a practical, flexible, and cost-effective alternative to traditional glass greenhouses.

Located in one of the sunniest areas of the farm, the greenhouse tunnels will help us grow plants through colder months, start seedlings, raise young trees and perennials, and support the wider development of the food forest, gardens, and farm landscape.

This project is about more than growing plants. It is about creating a protected space where future fertility, biodiversity, food production, education, and plant propagation can begin.

The Vision

We are not starting from zero. In 2023, we already installed three greenhouses on nearby land, where we grow annual crops and continue to gain practical experience with protected cultivation in our local conditions. These existing greenhouses are already helping us understand what works best in our climate, how to manage seasonal production, and how to plan future growing spaces more efficiently.

The new Greenhouse Tunnels at Three Sisters Farm will build on this existing experience and expand it into a more organized nursery and production system connected directly to the farm.

The first tunnel is planned as a protected horticultural growing space.

It will help us grow and protect plants during colder periods, giving seedlings and young plants a better chance to survive and develop before being moved outdoors.

The second tunnel is planned mainly as a nursery.

Here we will raise plants for the food forest, gardens, Mediterranean therapy garden, educational garden, and wider farm landscape. It can also support grafting, plant propagation, and future plant sales.

Together, these two tunnels will give Three Sisters Farm a practical foundation for long-term planting and production.
